Mr. John Beauregard Lippard, 81, died Sunday, December 3, 2000. Born April 20, 1919 in Lincoln County, NC, Mr. Lippard was a graduate of Belmont High School, Belmont Abbey College, and North Carolina State University. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.

John Lippard was the founder of the NCHRS at its incorporation in 1975. Both John and his son Lars were members of the 6th Regiment NC State Troops for several years and were instrumental in the development of the colonial units. John served on the Board of Directors for over 15 years and was always available to give advice and physical assistance. His grandfather was in the original 6th NC State Troops of the Confederate States of America.

Mr. Lippard, one of the first landscape architects in Charlotte, designed and landscaped many of the schools and public buildings in Charlotte in the 1950s and 1960s. He was also instrumental in the design of the Charlotte Motor Speedway and was President of the National Aerial Surveys, Inc.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Della Woosley Lippard; his son, Lars Lippard and wife, Leigh; grandchildren, Michael Lippard and Kristi Lippard; sister, Ophelia Lippard Love; brother, Robert Floyd Lippard, Jr., and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We will miss him greatly.
